The project and the team

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral researcher to work in the field of 3D printing of flexible electronic devices (sensors, actuators) and biomaterials for tissue engineering under the research project “3D (bio)printing for integrating biomimetic electronics into engineered tissues: A giant leap in regenerative medicine” funded by the Spanish Research State Agency (AEI).

The main goal of the research is to integrate flexible and soft electronic devices into an engineered tissue (e.g. skin) not only to monitor the physical and (bio)chemical changes occurring into the tissue but also to modulate its function through actuators (e.g. electrostimulation, drug delivery).

If selected, you will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment, within the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT) (Materials Science and Engineering Department) and Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering (IMEM) (Chemical Engineering Department) groups at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) under the supervision of Dr. José Manuel García and Prof. Carlos Alemán. Moreover, you will intimately collaborate with researchers at Bioengineering Institute of Technology (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya) and the company IMAZ Innovation Technology for the successful development of the project.

Your profile

  • PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics or related
  • Experience in 3D printing, soft materials (hydrogels) and their characterization is mandatory
  • Experience in cell biology will be very valued

Contract details

  • 2 year-contract with a gross salary of around 2.400 €/month.
  • You will be responsible of the 3D printing of inks to obtain the soft electronic devices and the scaffolds to grow the engineered skin. Moreover, you will characterize their physicochemical and functional properties.
  • Access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities and training opportunities
  • Travel allowance to participate in international conferences
  • Space for creativity and collaboration
  • Expected starting date: February 2023

Applications

Applications are welcome until a successful candidate is selected. Please send the following documents as a single pdf with your name to jose.manuel.garcia-torres@upc.edu and carlos.aleman@upc.edu:

  • Cover letter explaining research experience, current research interests and your motivation for the position
  • CV with a list of achievements.
  • Description of the marks achieved in the Graduation and Master studies
  • Contact details of two referees. Reference letters are welcome but not essential

Submit your application with “Postdoc applicant 3D-BIOMEET” in the subject line.
