AMES Medical and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) have recently renewed their collaborative agreement, ensuring the continuation of the AMES Chair in design and innovation of new biomaterials. Located at the UPC’s Diagonal-Besòs Campus, the AMES Chair, plays a vital role in promoting education, research, result transfer, and scientific dissemination in the field of additive manufacturing for metallic biomaterials.

The activities of the AMES Chair will be oriented towards the research and selection of applicable legislation, accredited laboratories for test certification, and certifying bodies, along with the identification and collaboration with advisory entities in the pharmaceutical and niche market sectors. Additionally, the Chair will focus on the characterization and analysis of new materials and their reactions in different scenarios, as well as the development and optimization of treatments for biomaterials. The expertise of Professor José María Manero, as the responsible faculty member, will play a pivotal role in driving these initiatives forward.

Through the seamless integration of the AMES Chair with the CREB’s Biomaterials, Biomechanics, and Tissue Engineering (BBT) research group, the institution continues to make significant strides in additive manufacturing technology. The fruitful partnership between the UPC and AMES Medical serves as a prime example of academia-industry collaboration, driving groundbreaking advancements in the development of cutting-edge biomaterials with real-world applications. By harnessing the collective expertise and resources, the AMES Chair remains at the forefront of transformative research, contributing to the betterment of society and cementing the CREB’s reputation as a premier center for engineering biomaterials research.
